The house is stone-built then rendered and painted in typical Tuscan style. When we first saw it in the Autumn of 2003 it was abandoned and in a state of complete disrepair; some would say ruin. We have literally restored it from its foundations to the roof and in the process have added modern conveniences such as central heating, four bathrooms, satellite TV, double glazing - none of which were in the original building. We are sure that casa Violetta will make a perfect base for your holiday in Tuscany. Let us take you on a tour of the house ... |

The house is built on a hillside so the 'back' door is on the first floor and leads into the bedroom landing whilst the 'front' door is on the ground floor and leads into the kitchen. The kitchen is large and well equipped with modern fittings including dishwasher, large American style fridge/freezer, large cooker, electric oven, microwave oven, etc. There are also the usual accessories such as Belletti coffee maker (for Italian coffee), electric coffee maker (for American coffee), electric kettle, toaster, blender/liquidiser, scales, saucepans, dishes, cutlery - in fact just about everything you're likely to need. |

The dining room is adjacent to the kitchen and features a large table and chairs - plenty of room for ten people to dine. There is also a DVD/CD player and radio for some music. A door from the dining room leads onto the barbecue terrace, Stairs from the dining rooms lead to the first floor and four of the five bedrooms. Through the dining room is the utility room with washing machine as well as guest toilet, wash hand basin and coat closet. Iron and ironing board are kept in the closet next to the utility room. |

At the front of the house next to the kitchen and with its own door leading onto the lawned terraces is the lounge. Comfortably furnished this room has a 36" flat screen TV with most English programmes available (BBC1,BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4, Channel 5) so you can keep up with your favourite soap whilst enjoying the Tuscan weather. Adjacent to the lounge is Bedroom 5 with a double bed; it is the only bedroom on the ground floor and has its own en suite bathroom and dressing room with windows that look out over the gardens and swimming pool. |

| Upstairs are four bedrooms and a family bathroom. Bedroom 1 and Bedroom 2 are identical and both have Queen size beds with en suite bathrooms with shower. The windows from these rooms look out over the olive terraces and Pescia and Lucca. In the distance you can see the Mediterranean. All bedrooms except bedroom 4 have hair dryers. |  |

Bedroom 3 is a twin bedded room (though the beds may be easily moved together to make a double bed). This room has a vanity unit with wash hand basin and window that looks out over the swimming pool and lawns. The family bathroom is just across the landing. | |
| Bedroom 4 is the smallest of the bedrooms but nevertheless is a pleasant, airy room that sleeps two persons comfortably in bunk beds. Each bed is a full size single and could be used by an adult though it would be better suited to children. The family bathroom is right next door. |  |

The most striking feature is the swimming pool. It measures 5m x 10m and is uniformly 1.4m deep with a 'Roman End'. Set in lawns and surrounded by woodland it is on the edge of the World - how many pools have views like this? There is a shaded area at one end of the pool plus a bench seat table with parasol. The pool is fenced off from the rest of the garden for the security of small children. |

Directly in front of the house is the pizza oven so that you can make your own tasty Italian style pizzas in a 'forno a legna'. You'll find plenty of wood for the oven plus the correct implements and we'll even show you how to make pizzas.. There is also a barbecue on the terrace outside the dining room door. We'll supply you with a pack of charcoal to get you started; we can always sell you more or you can pick it up for yourselves from the town. |

Pizza making in progress. The wonderful fresh ingredients available in this area such as mozzarella di bufala, the tastiest local tomatoes and local cured prosciutto make homemade pizzas a gastronomic delight.

Once you've made your pizzas or grilled your steaks you can enjoy them on the 'lookout' - a decked area with table and chairs that is covered to protect you from the sun and, occasionally, the rain. This whole area is lit in the evenings - or maybe you'll just want candle power. |

Location of Casa Violetta |

Casa Violetta is located in the hills above Uzzano Castello overlooking Pescia and Lucca. It is some 420m above sea level and in the summer enjoys a temperature some 2-3C lower than the temperatures in the town below. driving time to Pescia, the nearest town, is 15 minutes down a picturesque, well made but winding and narrow road. Driving times to various tourist locations are: Lucca about 30 minutes Pescia (pronounced pesha) is a typical Italian town that is important for flower growing and paper making. Tourism as an industry is becoming increasingly important but it is not the mainstay of the town meaning that the restaurants and other facilities are open even when most of the holiday makers have gone. North of Pescia is a region known as 'Svizzera Pesciatina' or Pescia's Switzerland. It is a hilly region with winding roads to explore among the pine and chestnut forests. You'll find restaurants and bars to enjoy in the many villages such as Pietrabuona, Sorana, Goraiolo, Castelvecchio, Vellano as well as woodland trails to wander along. Casa Violetta is at the southern edge of Svizzera Pesciatina and is a great base for walking holidays. Below is an interactive map showing the location of Casa Violetta. Who we are at Casa Violetta. We are Noel & Linda Tulley from Oundle in Northamptonshire, England. During the last 20 years or so we have owned and run the Wheatsheaf Hotel and Restaurant at Upper Benefield and then Barnwell Mill or, as it is now known, The Mill at Oundle (see photo below). After so long 'behind bars' we decided we needed a change and a challenge so we came to Italy and found 'Lastrucce', which is the original name of our house. We changed it to 'Casa Violetta' because of the abundance of the flowers that grow here in the spring. |

| We like to think that we have applied the same formula to the creation of Casa Violetta as we applied to our businesses in Oundle and are sure that those of you who know us and who come and stay at Casa Violetta will not be disappointed.
Whilst we live at Casa Violetta during the winter months we have another small house nearby where we stay when Casa Violetta is let. We leave our guests in perfect peace and privacy yet we are only 15 minutes away should an emergency arise or you just want us to make a reservation at a restaurant for you.
